Viewpoints is a new exhibition featuring the work of six Wessex artists responding to the diverse landscape around them: Sue Clarke, Gadd & Co., Polly Hobbs, Jenny Wheatley, Jools Woodhouse and Guy Woodhouse. 

 

Paintings, artist-designed tableware, hand-formed paper pieces, abstract wood sculptures, turned wood vessels and mixed-media collage will be on display and the artists will be in attendance on various days throughout the week.

RNLI Lyme Regis 200 Thanksgiving Service

22nd February

On 22 February 1826, Lyme Regis received funding from the RNLI for a lifeboat. To mark this significant bicentenary, the lifeboat station is planning a series of celebratory events throughout 2026.

 

The first of these will take place on Sunday 22 February 2026, when a special thanksgiving service will be held at St Michael’s Church, Lyme Regis, beginning at 11.00am.

 

The community will be gathering for this service, which will celebrate the long-standing connection between the lifeboat station, the town, the people of Lyme Regis, harbour users, and all those who work with, fundraise for, and support the lifeboat service.

Fossil Walks (every month)

Fossil walks are a great way to learn more about the geology of the Jurassic Coast and to hear about the amazing fossils discovered here in Lyme Regis.

Join an expert guide from Lyme Regis Museum to go fossil hunting on Lyme’s famous East beach and Black Ven. Learn all about the remarkable fossil hunter Mary Anning, the geology of the Jurassic Coast and discover your own fossils to take home.

The walks last two and a half to three hours, what’s more museum entry is included in the price!

Tapas Class & Lunch

Tapas is a very fun and informal way of eating in Spain. It consists of a series of small dishes, usually shared around the table, and does not have the structure of a normal meal (like a starter or main course), but is more about grazing and chatting with friends. It’s a fun way to socialise and share food.

APRIL

Lyme Regis Easter Bonnet Parade

5th April

Lyme Regis will be aglow with colour and creativity as parade-goers gather to show off their fancy hats and beautiful bonnets in the Easter Bonnet Parade.

 

Come along  and take part or just watch the wonderful and extravagant creations parade through the town.

 

The event is open to all ages with prizes awarded for the most creative bonnets in each age category (0-5, 6-10, 11-16 and adults).

 

Grab the glue and get your creative juices flowing. You have until 2.15pm on Easter Sunday to produce your masterpiece.

 

Entrants are invited to assemble in Lyme Regis Baptist Church for 2.15pm for judging with the parade commencing outside the church at 3pm.  Led by the Mayor of Lyme Regis and Lyme Regis Majorettes, the entrants will make their way down Broad Street to Cobb Gate followed by Lyme Morris. The parade will then proceed along Cart Road and Marine Parade to the Jubilee Pavilion.

Easter Monday Duck Race

6th April

12:00

Everyone goes a bit quackers at midday on Easter Monday as hundreds of individually numbered bright yellow toy ducks are released into the river Lim at Higher Mill Flats where they hurtle downstream in a mad paddle towards the finish line at Jordan Flats.

 

Lyme Regis Town Crier Alan Vian will officially start the race alongside the Mayor from Windsor Terrace near Woodmead Road Bridge.

 

There will be a host of cash prizes for the first, second and third ducks over the finish line and a bonus prize for the last duck that manages to negotiate the river course.

MAY

Blessing of the Boats

10th May

15:00

The annual Blessing of the Boats interdenominational service acknowledges the lives of those lost at sea while blesses all those who go to sea professionally or for leisure.

 

The volunteer lifeboat crew, the Royal British Legion and Lyme Regis Coastguard are represented at the event along with the sailing, powerboat and gig clubs.

 

Music will be provided by the Lyme Regis town band and there will be a performance from the Lyme Bay Moonrakers.

The service concludes with four floral wreaths being taken to be laid at sea by the lifeboat crew to commemorate those lost at sea but also to celebrate relief and gratitude for lifeboat crews, coastguards and helicopter crews, all of whom have saved many lives.

JUNE

Lyme Regis Fossil Festival

13th – 14th June

Have you ever seen a life-sized dinosaur or held a 200 million year old fossil in the palm of your hand? Would you like to follow in the footsteps of Mary Anning and find your very own fossil?

Dinosaurs, talks, walks, panel discussions and children’s activities will be coming to Lyme Regis for the Fossil Festival 2025!

Lyme Regis is blessed with some of the most remarkable palaeontology and geology on the planet and the Fossil Festival celebrates this with a weekend of science, discovery and fun. 

There’s an abundance of activities for enthusiasts of all ages including guided fossil and geographical walks, fascinating exhibitions, lots of hands-on science plus some thought-provoking and entertaining talks.

B Sharp Busking Festival

27th June

Young musicians from youth music organisation B Sharp will be performing at various locations on the seafront and around town at one of the many busking stops or in the main performance area on Marine Parade. 

 

Buskers of all ages perform, using a range of instruments and passers-by are also encouraged to get involved.

 

There will also be workshops and activities for all ages including an open mic session, drums, crafts and performances by B Sharp bands.

JULY

Lyme Regis Sausage & Cider Festival

4th July

Celebrate the start of summer with the Seasiders as the football club once again host the annual Lyme Regis AFC Sausage & Cider Festival in July.

 

This mini festival in a day, this event raises funds for the football club and showcases a fantastic selection of more than 20 ciders, sizzling sausages and other refreshments.

 

A programme of live music and entertainment will be held throughout the day plus there will be indoor and outdoor bars, a Pimm’s tent, BBQ and other food, ice creams, raffle and a bouncy castle which will be open all day.

Lyme Morris Day of Dance

11th July

The sixth Lyme Morris Day of Dance will be held on Saturday 11th July, with morris sides from across the South West and further afield putting on a show of morris dancing. Watch the high energy routines to the beat of drums, hum of accordions with the sound of bells tinkling and sticks knocking.  

 

There will be performances at various locations along the seafront including the Marine Parade shelters and outside Swim.

 

The event is hosted by Lyme Morris, representing Lyme Regis and Uplyme, who perform in their white and green livery and iconic top hats. They’re a traditional morris dancing side favouring the use of long sticks with high energy, high impact dances, focused on having fun for both the performers and the watching public.

Somers Day Parade

22nd July

Somers Day is an annual parade organised by the Lyme Regis and St George’s Twinning Association to commemorate Lyme Regis’s former mayor and politician Admiral Sir George Somers who founded the islands of Bermuda in the name of King James VI in 1609. 

 

Dignitaries and visitors from the town of St. Georges, Bermuda, walk with members of Lyme Regis and St George’s Twinning Association and members of the town council at 11am through Langmoor Gardens and along Marine Parade to the Cobb, where a flag raising and memorial ceremony takes place.

Lyme Regis Regatta & Carnival Week

31st July – 8th August

A week of events for the whole family during the summer holidays which provides great entertainment while raising money for local good causes.

 

Among the many events, highlights of the week include the Torchlight Procession, Candles Down the River, Wacky Wheelbarrow Race, Duck Race, and the Carnival Procession finale.

31st July

Be prepared to be dazzled by a spectacular Lyme Regis Firework display!

 

Lyme Regis harbour offers the perfect setting for an explosion of light and colour with the skies above Lyme Regis seafront illuminated by a stunning pyrotechnic display.

 

Watch from Langmoor and Lister Gardens or anywhere along the seafront near the sandy beach.

 

This free event will kick off Lyme Regis Regatta and Carnival week with a bang. Please give generously to collectors on the night. All profits to local good causes.

AUGUST

Lyme Regis Lifeboat Week

15th – 22nd August

One of the town’s biggest summer attractions, Lifeboat Week is a whole week of fun, games, entertainment music and displays for all the family to enjoy. All the old favourites are in the week’s attractions: the bath tub race, swimming challenges, a crab fishing competition, teddy bears’ picnic and the hugely popular water or wine lucky dip.

 

The highlight of the week will be an aerobatic display by vintage aircraft over two days featuring two aircraft from the Navy Wings collection based at the Royal Naval Air Station in Yeovilton. The vintage Harvard and Chipmunk aircraft will be performing on Wednesday and Thursday during the week.

Lyme Folk Weekend

29th – 31st August

A four day festival of free live folk music, shanty singing, storytelling and ceilidh dancing along the seafront. The Marine Theatre will also play host to a number of the UK’s finest folk musicians.

Lyme Regis Fireworks Display

7th November

Watch the fireworks as they light up the sky over the harbour. The Cobb provides a fantastic backdrop for the stunning display with Lister and Langmoor gardens offering a wonderful vantage point to view the explosive night of fireworks.

Remembrance Sunday Parade & Service

8th November

The Remembrance Day Parade is led by the Mayor of Lyme Regis, the civic party and members of the Royal British Legion.

 

Participants are requested to assemble at the Pound Street entrance to Langmoor Gardens at 9am and at 9.30am the procession will proceed down Broad Street, along Bridge Street and Church Street to St Michael’s Church for a special service which starts at 10am. The procession will then gather at the clock tower at 10.50am ready for a poignant two minute silence at 11am.

 

The public are warmly encouraged to line the route to watch the parade and pay their respects to all who have served.

Lyme Regis Christmas Lights Switch On

21st November

It’s that special time of year when Lyme really starts to twinkle. Spirits are expected to be high on Saturday 21st November 2026 as Lyme Regis begins its countdown to Christmas with the big switch on of the town’s Christmas lights. The lighting up of Lyme never fails to draw crowds and gasps of wonder from onlookers soaking up the magical seasonal atmosphere. This year Santa will again be arriving on his sleigh to switch on the lights.

DECEMBER

Lyme Regis Christmas Tree Festival

11th – 13th December

The Christmas Tree Festival held in the Pine Hall at the Baptist Church is one of the town’s best loved festive events which showcases a stunning array of glittering Christmas trees decorated by local groups, businesses and organisations

Meander through a mini forest of sparkling trees adorned with lights and creatively decorated to reflect the theme of the organisation. 

 

The magical spectacle which brings extra festive cheer to the town is free to attend, but there will be donation pots at the bottom of each of the trees decorated by local community groups and organisations.

Carols Round The Tree

23rd December 2025

Get into the festive spirit and join one of Lyme’s longest running traditions, the annual Carols Round the Tree event organised by the Rotary Club of Lyme Regis.

 

The popular community event, now in its 64th year, always attracts a large crowd and raises funds for a chosen local charity. Traditional carols are sung around the large Christmas tree at the bottom of Broad Street. Music is provided by the Lyme Regis Town Band.
